"I'm the type who'd be happy not
going anywhere as long as I was sure I knew exactly what was happening at the
places I wasn't going to. I'm the type who'd like to sit home and watch every
party that I'm invited to on a monitor in my bedroom."
~ Andy Warhol
“Never make your home in a place. Make a home for yourself inside your own head. You'll find what you need to
furnish it - memory, friends you can trust, love of learning, and other such
things. That way it will go with you wherever you journey.” ~ Tad Williams
“You will find as you look back upon
your life that the moments when you have truly lived are the moments when you
have done things in the spirit of love.”
~ Henry Drummond
I woke up way too early this morning to catch a 7 a.m.
flight to New York for a quick visit to Connecticut. Nothing like an
airport and boarding a plane to give your life perspective - the feel of being cattle
as you and others meander through security and board your flight - the moment
you have no choice but to give your life over to the control of others -
the take-off, turbulence and landing that force you to contemplate your mortality
- oh, and that newly increased fear of the intentions and/or sanity of your
fellow passengers, not to mention, the flight crew!
Okay, so the flight is fine so far, of course, and somewhere over Mississippi,
I'm finally starting to relax and get excited about my trip. The getting
ready is always so hectic and all-consuming that it's difficult to actually
FEEL anything until the point when there is nothing else to think about or do.
So maybe the forced release of control comes at the perfect time for
people.
Slowly descending into JFK and now I can't freaking wait to get to see my
family and, hopefully, a few old friends. It's been too long.
"If you make the unconditional
commitment to reach your most important goals, if the strength of your decision
is sufficient, you will find the way and the power to achieve your goals."
~ Robert Conklin
